In spite of a post on an entertainment website about Gordon Lightfoot, no, I was not his second wife. I’ve been married since 1969 to the same man, who is not (and, no disrespect to Mr. Lightfoot, I’m glad of that) Gordon Lightfoot. Most of you would have figured that out yourselves, if you’d ever run into the post, but since it’s out there, someone who knows you like my books may pull a “Did you know…?” on you and you can help me out by stomping on the rumor if it’s still alive. (It’s on an internet site. It will be there forever.)
I’ve informed the site, but who knows if they’ll bother to make any correction. So I’m being pro-active or something similar. (mirrored on Universes blog)

Well, someone is aware of your fame besides your fans, who would never do such a thing. I send the site an email, too, telling them that it is not true. Hope it helps.

Thanks. We’ll see. And it’s far from the worst factoid that could be circulated. But it can be nipped off now, all the better. I suspect Mr.Lightfoot would not like to be fielding questions about whether or not he read my books, too

I think Lightfoot was married to a woman named Elizabeth Moon from 1989 to 2011; it just wasn’t our Elizabeth Moon.
There are a lot of references on the Internet and in my dusty Rock and Roll Encyclopedia to his second wife being “Elizabeth moon.”

Sorry, that just gave me a bad case of the giggles. As you say, its far from the worst rumour that could have been started and for some reason it actually strikes me funny – especially, as you say, you’ve been married to the same man for far longer than the dates quoted there. Thank you for the much needed laugh. (Isn’t it strange the stuff that can – and will – set us off for no apparent reason? 🙂 ) On the more serious side, I agree this definitely should be quashed as well as possible since it is not true at all. Pity there is no public comments to allow your fans to say *ahem* and leave that on the permanent record rather than just the ‘undisputed’ site. Hopefully, they WILL fix it, but, as you say, it’s probably out there forever now…and possibly caught in sites such as the waybackmachine (or whatever it’s called) error and all.
Hope you and your real husband can at least get a chuckle out of it. 🙂

I will say as a genealogist it is not uncommon for a novice research to assume the first person of the requisite name must be the person they are looking for. Even a name we think is unique may and likely does have others named the same. This especially true before the 21st century when children were often named for uncles and aunts.

Oh, yes. Husband’s family is full of Richard, Walter, Thomas, William. Mine is full of Richard, James, David, Edwin, Paul.

I could ask the question of, “Who’s Gordon Lightfoot?” But given where I live, one particular song of his nearly everyone here knows quite well–don’t mess with the LAKE. Which is why I guess I never had confusion over this.

Whilst growing up the only people I knew with my last name were family. It is unusual, although we twice came across people who had heard of it.
Then I moved from the English midlands to the south coast, and on my first day of a temping job was accosted by someone who had seen my name, and had panicked that her aunt had 1) quit her job and started at this co. without telling her neice who worked there and 2) had divorced, returning to her maiden name. Same first, middle and last name as me.
The Sussex Dobell’s used to be a big family – landowners, coat of arms etc. Probably arriving with William the Illegitimate. My lot arrived as Huguenot refugees rather later, and then tooka detour to North America before returning to England.
In my next job I worked with an Australian, and it turns out the name is well known there.
My partner’s last name is Wright, which is so common here that lots of people – famous and not – have the same name as him.

My MacNaughtan ancestors were exceptionally partial to “John”.
