Slow Progress

Though the repairs, etc., and some Other Stuff slowed progress, it wasn’t entirely a dud week after hitting the 100K mark last Tuesday at midnight.

The current wordage is 103,260.

Supposedly no workmen show up tomorrow, and though Other Stuff is still around, I should be able to carve out several hours of quiet to get more work done.    Thursday’s going to be iffy–large vet visit (spring shots and dental work for both horses) that will probably wipe me out, given my current energy level) but progress is progress.

Looking back over some recent scenes with a critical eye  (which I really shouldn’t do at this stage) I can see that those allergic to girl cooties may find them infested.   Feelings are being mentioned.    The fatal four letter word starting with L- even shows up.

Just shut your eyes, keep one hand on the wall, and keep going.  Beyond the eruption of girl cooties (you cannot have an encounter between someone’s current female person of interest and a past unsuccessful wannabee person of interest, and talk about a possible wedding in the offing, without a girl cootie or two appearing.   Deal with it) are new vistas of  mighty deeds of valor, etc.   Besides, I suspect a lot will be cut out in revisions.

Meanwhile, the squires.   Oh, the squires are revealing more of themselves now.   No girl cooties there yet.   Beclan’s a bit of a snob,  but a few more times of digging jacks and he’ll get over it.  Maybe.  Gwenno’s all wide-eyed at the chance to meet Paks and determined not to be put down by Beclan.  Daryan is presently letting me see more of his motivations while concealing them from the others.   He is indeed typical of his family.   Not sure yet about the tutor (not their tutor–but one traveling with them.)

The chronology of the second volume is still tangled, because of the need to open out the compressed carry-over part and add new material in the interstices.   I can’t do what I did in the first (write each point-of-view linearly, and then braid at the end)  because of that.   So there’s a huge wodge–almost 80,000 words–in the main file, and five other files hovering to the side, waiting for their chance to merge.  A sixth file has already been cut into pieces and slivered in to the main one.

Now that I can (sort of) think again, I may spend this week merging the outlier files into the main one, so things are (sort of) in proper order.
