Spread the Word, Please

The spring Orbit UK catalog is out (hurray!) and the page for Echoes of Betrayal is gorgeous…I love the cover.    There’s just one teeny-tiny problem….the phrase,  “The eagerly awaited climax…”  in the blurb.  All of you who read here know it’s not the climax–there are two books coming after Echoes–but people who don’t follow this blog, or my other online stuff, may not.

So…would you please, when you’re discussing the upcoming book, please let people know that it’s not the end of the story, but the middle, the hinge book?   Or if you’re in a bookstore and the staff say “Oh, the last of the new Paks books is coming out”, would you please let them know it’s not the last–and point them to this blog for current info?     My new contact at Orbit UK, Joanna Kramer  (remember, my editor there, the delightful Bella Pagan, left)  will be trying to get the online catalog fixed in this regard, but the print catalog is…well…printed.

Your efforts will be appreciated (though I’m afraid getting home-made goodies  to all of you just isn’t possible…)    I don’t want any readers confused about this, or unhappy that Echoes does not have the grand crashing climax/resolution that’s coming in Book V.

    Just make sure you make the fruit cake with English Sherry and that will travel well through the post (might not make it through customs with all that liquor though).

    But then I’m on your side of the Pond Elizabeth, not the other. I have been pushing it locally as much as I could. I think pre-ordering the last one helped. Will keep at it.

    I can’t help wondering if there’s some sort of causal relationship (even if it’s common cause) with the fact wikipedia were calling it a trilogy until just now (fixed it)…

    Trilogy, heptology, I wouldn’t even mind a doxology, as long as you are having fun writing them.

    I get enough of them on Sunday anyway.

    The sites pages are now behind a username and password – probably because if it was displayed it would break UK law on advertising – all web pages must be correct..

    However both Amazon and Play do not show Echoes as the final book!

    Waiting in anticipation to books 3, 4 and 5 and the new serial what ever it will be!

    Your own web page – the blog states that the series is likely to be 3 books but could be longer, maybe you need to update that as well

    Thanks for reminding me. That’s actually a blog page, not something you’d see going to the Paksworld site, so I had overlooked it. It’s updated now. And it’s time for another update to both my main site and the Paksworld site, so I’ll pester my web guru this afternoon.

    I’m glad Amazon and Play don’t list Echoes as the final volume. I’m unclear on UK advertising law…would a mistake on a web page be considered illegal?

    SNORK. I miss the Doxology, which offers many opportunities for creative alto harmonization. We don’t use it at St. David’s–we have an offertory hymn usually, and that follows the offertory anthem.

    Knowingly advertising with incorrect information is a (fairly minor) offence in the UK; don’t think it’s a crime, per se, more a regulatory infraction. What counts as an advert or not is then a question, of course. IANAL.

    UK advertising rules changed this year and now Web sites have to conform to the UK rules and thus the Orbit Site being a UK site has to conform. I have not heard a ruling yet where someone has been hit with it, as the normal resolution is to be made to fix the error and not repeat it.

    While we’re talking about books, is there any plan to put “The Deed of Paksenarrion” in an e-book format? I do most of my reading on a nook these days, and it’s one of my go-to ‘comfort reads’.
